Robo-call from fraud detection department of Paypal to verify a payment I sent. Give no information, not even to confirm. I called the number on Paypal's website, and was informed that Paypal has no such number, and that my account records indicate that no call was made to me on any number.Ĭall was allegedly reporting suspicious fraud activity with a Paypal account. Charge on my statement was for "PayPal Bonnie8th", this phone number referenced. I WILL be reporting this FRAUDULENT charge to Discover card!Ĭharged $1,206.00 to my visa. Charge on my statement was for "Dining In 40 IL". It was a legitimate transaction, but pinged their "check this one" trigger.Ĥ6 comments about 40 at 91 call reported from 40.Ĭharged $249.75 to my Discover card. PayPal Fraud Department verifying a large transaction on my PayPal account. Some others, who use PayPal as a "bank" to receive money from their Ebay sales, apparently have had a different experience. And I suppose scammers could be spoofing the PayPal number for phishing purposes. The phone number showed it was out of Omaha.ĭespite what others have said below, my call from this number was really from PayPal, resolving (in my favor) a dispute I had with a rug retailer.I only buy using PayPal and have found them very easy to deal with. IT WAS DEFINITELY A SCAM DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION. I called our rep and reported it to him and they are going to follow up. I had distinct background noises of a boiler room so this is not a small scam it is a HUGE scam. I told her that I would hang up and call our contact with Paypal and discuss it with the rep that answered the phone.if she was there I would talk to her.

She asked for the last 4 digits of our bank acct and I gave it to her then she asked for the full account number, at that point I began to question her for her name and employee number. This person who's name is Golda said that we had not been making our payments which I knew to be false.

Which is also the number that shows on my credit card statement regarding the charge issue.(402) 935-7733 from PhoneTray users Guest So while you can call 40 & get an automated PayPal system, the # given on their website is 88, and if you choose not to wait for a representative & have them call you, the call will come from 40. A few minutes later I got 3 e-mails from PayPal, noting the case # that had been created, that the merchant had been contacted & that if they didn't respond by Feb.

The person I spoke with took the details of the problem (charge to my credit card for an item I'd ordered but didn't receive) & said I'd get e-mail confirmation of the dispute & what PayPay was going to do about it. I chose that option & the number the call-back came from was 40. On PayPal's website, the # to call to resolve a problem is 88, but the wait time is long & the automated system gives you the option of receiving a call-back within a certain period of time (in my case, 23-35 minutes). Yes, it is a legitimate number for PayPal customer service. I was told where it was being sent to, what the item was, and how much it was for and what ebay account the fraudster used to get it. Please please please if you see a fraudulent transaction, call the number lol. Just to be safe, I still intend on going to my bank and getting a new card number. I was transferred to the fraud department and the woman was very kind and credited back those charged to my account, which I can see are currently pending on my bank app. They pulled up my account instantly and asked if I made purchases of men's running shoes or cologne and obviously I did not. The only asked for my name and the last for numbers to the card I sued to make the purchases. I also work at First National Bank of Omaha, so I know about not giving info over the phone. I called the number to the $124 (as it was the only provided, and I saw the familiar 402 code) and I was given to a Paypal representative. I hard two charged, one for $53 and one for $124. I live in Nebraska, which is the 402 area code, and that number goes directly to out Paypal office here. One thing you have to understand is that the charge is fraud, not the number.
